Materoa is of Ngati Whātua and Ngati Porou descent, and has been involved in Māori health, Whanau Ora and other areas of Māori Development for more than 30 years, in various roles.
Materoa is currently the Upoko Whakarae for the Whānau Ora Alliance Te Tihi o Ruahine, based in the Mid Central region. She is currently a Co Chair for A Better Start Science Challenge and the Chair for EMERGE Aotearoa Trust, and previously held numerous governance role in the New Zealand health system.
Materoa has also been involved over time with Indigenous Development and has benefited from visiting with and maintaining a broad range of relationships internationally. Materoa is committed to Māori Development and working within Hapori to improve outcomes for Māori that are led by Māori and centred on Māori Solutions.
